Alchemical Engines
Alchemical Engines is a puzzle game about carefully filling out a grid with the four elements. Certain cells need to be solid, others need to be liquid. Some need to be hot, others need to be cold. It's up to you to fill out the grid correctly!
How to play
Alchemical Engines works similar to nonograms / picross puzzles. The numbers on the side determine which elements belong in which square. Remember,
- Earth is a cold solid
- Water is a cold liquid
- Metal is a hot solid
- Lava is a hot liquid
The blue numbers on the top and left determine which elements are solid and not:
The red numbers on the right and bottom determine which elements are hot and not:
Combining this info allows you to finally generate a full solution:
Your fastest times are recorded in the statistics page. Solving it under one minute gets you a wavy effect, and solving it in under 30 seconds gets you the exciting rainbow effect!
Controls
Click on the tray on the bottom right to select which element to place. Alternatively, use keyboard shortcuts:
1 - Water
2 - Earth
3 - Lava
4 - Metal
Left-click to place an element, right-click to remove an element.
Enable/disable the timer, hint number animation (the slight rotation of the blue and red numbers), as well as the background tint in settings.
The help option in the pause menu will automatically fill 1-2 empty spots on your grid with the correct answer. It is disabled when your grid only has 1 empty spot.
Have fun!

I tried clicking on the position in the first row and second column, but a strange shadow appeared.
Thanks for the feedback! That bug seems quite weird too, I'll have a look and release a fix soon, hopefully incorporating some of your suggestions! As for hot vs cold, I could tweak the colour schemes to make the cold elements more obviously cooler in colour, and vice versa for the hot elements.
I appreciate you playing the game!
Hey! I've been unable to replicate the bug I'm afraid, but I have now implemented the first and third points! (see the new devlog) A marking system would take more work which I do not currently have the time for, but perhaps in the future.
This looks really fun to play, but it really needs a tutorial level or two, or maybe the which element has what properties reminder right in the screen. Also, a "next level" button would make for a smoother experience.
Other than that, great job!! It's really hard to come up with a fun puzzle game and then put it online! I also love seeing a Godot project in the wild!
thanks for the feedback! I've heard the tutorial level request multiple times IRL as well, so thats definitely in the works as well as a next level button too ^_^ glad you enjoyed it!
